Yesterday, I went to the Opera (Aïda) with Marissa. On the way, I stopped at a little store I found a couple of weeks ago, and purchased 400 National Geographic magazines. Yes, that is correct, four hundred of them. They weight a LOT and take up quite a bit of room, but I have a lot of them now. I paid $120 for the lot.

Now I just need to sort them and remove duplicates (which I will sell again).

Excerpt from Masters of The Vortex, by E.E. 'Doc' Smith. It is the 7th and final book of his classic Lensman series:

'QX, Joanie, and thanks. I've been wanting to do this more than I ever wanted anything before in my life. But not holding hands, this time. Heart to heart and cheek to cheek.'

'Check - the closer the better.'

They embraced, and again mind flowed into mind; this time with no thought of withholding or reserve on either side. Smoothly effortlessly, the two essential beings merged, each fitting it's tiniest remotest members into the the deepest, ordinarily most inaccessible recesses of the other; fusing as quickly as delicately and as throughly as two drops of water coalescing into one.

In that supremely intimate fusion, that ultimate union of line and plane and cellule, each mind was revelated completly to the other; a revealment which no outside should expect to share.

Ok, so I haven't updated in a long time now. However, there will be more updates coming soon.

I ordered a Handspring Visor Edge last weekend, and it arrived during the week. It is a lot lighter to take to school than my old klunkly laptop. Plus I intend to use it to write up LiveJournal entries on the go.

Schoolwork has been really hectic lately, as next week is an exam week for me. More sleep would be nice, but I don't have time to get it in. The Visor will also help me get more work done on some of this.

I went out with Marissa yesterday, saw 'Signs' @ Capital 6 Theatres, and 'Kilimanjaro: To the Roof of Africa' @ CN IMAX. kilimanjaro is a really awesome movie, great cinematography in it. Plus the fact that natural Africa is a really beautiful place. Has anybody here besides me seen the documentaries about the African Rift Valley by David Attenborough? It was in the series entitled 'The Living Planet' and was circa 1984.

I wanted to try the ribs place that replaced Urban Monk for dinner, but they were playing rap music at an excessive volume, so we went to a little pita place instead. Before heading home, we had ice-cream from Cows on Robson.

In other bits of news, I've bought an additional 40Gb hard drive for $70 to put into my server as another backup drive.

Off to do homework I go now. I have a posting due at 6pm.

Spam

I use a really good automated anti-spam system on my server (SpamAssassin), and I just automatically move all incoming Spam into a folder by that name.

I just checked thru it this morning, and I see two (well three) really funny porn spams.

The first one, "Public Nudity Uncensored" has most of it's content in a big image. However, the ONLY link on the page is for penis enlargement! Is this misleading advertising for porn, or were the creators of this spam just smoking something?

Secondly, riht next to each other, and looking like they come from the same source, there are two spams, "Hairy Vaginas" and "Shaved Vaginas", which advertise exactly the opposite. Eg the "Hairy Vaginas" has pictures of shaved ones, and vice-versa.

Whoever these spammers are, they aren't as bright as they used to be.

Gone away for the weekend to vancouver island.
Back sunday.

Argh! 2.20am! Too much homework! Anyway, another posting down. Remaining: 1 posting, 1 report, 1 6pg essay, 1 program. The posting and report I need to get done tommorow, and I really need to make a good start on the essay as well.

I'm really stressed out, so I'm taking this weekend off, to get away from things. I'll be on Vancouver Island from Thursday afternoon until Sunday afternoon.

On a side note, nobody gave me the usual warning of "Don't slip" when I went to shower tonight, and I skidded and hurt my hip a bit :-(.
[livejournal.com profile] galaxychild: I guess I've slipped now. So now what?

To bed with me now!

Hmm, I need more music by this guy. It is incredibly relaxing and wonderful music. I have "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" soundtrack, which he also did, but I should find more, as it is really good music. Marissa ([livejournal.com profile] amethest) likes music by the composer Thomas Newman, and now I have found a good composer that I like as well. I'm gonna go past Metrotown tommorow and see what CD's they have by him. And maybe actually buy some (the horror!, I'm actually buying a CD!).

But the music is really is really nice.

Hmm, I really should get to bed. But I digress, I don't want to yet.

The other thing I was going to write about last night, was primarily that I cooked dessert (apple tart) but recived not a word of thanks from anybody in my family for it. All I got were compliants, and there was nothing wrong with it this time. My brother cooked dinner, and he only got complianed at as well, but at least he was thanked for making dinner, even tho he screwed it up and didn't think. Argh!

Today, I went up to SFU this morning, to try and pay my tuition, only to find that they don't take credit card. In today's day and age, the SFU Cashiers do not take credit card. WTF is going on? At TechBC last year, they took credit card for payment, and we were told that the same options were available to us this year. Somebody is not on the level here. So it was a wasted trip up the mountain with my father, including waiting 20 minutes for a parking space in the visitors lot.

After that, we took my aunt to the airport, as she was flying back to South Africa today. She gave me a gift, that she and my maternal grandmother collected together from around the world. A big pile of second hand E.E. 'Doc' Smith books! I am now only a few books short of the ones that he wrote totally on his own, plus there are another 10-15 books that he co-authored that I want to look for. I have the complete Lensman series now, which was the pinnicle of his work. 1920-30's Sci-fi rocks!

I got back from the airport a bit after 3pm, and saw a message from Brittney about the TechBC Learner Assoication. I rushed to a 4pm meeting at TechBC about it. Thank g0d for the new skytrain! Basically we discussed about what was going to happen. So far, we are hoping to create a seperate Campus Student Society at TechBC, in line with the policies of the SFSS. I've basically unofficially volunteered to run for the position involving technical liason with IS/eLINC and lead the computer technical side of the LA with my existing knowledge. Micheal Brolich even introduced me as the resident computer genius to everybody at the meeting. It was attended by lots of TechTwos, a few TechThrees/Fours and a single TechOne. I've got a meeting tommorow, and an even bigger meeting on Monday related to tommorow's meeting, with some politicians. A fair bit of money is in it for me and the group i'm with depending on the outcome of Monday's meeting.

I'm heading to bed now. As you may have noticed, I'm trying to keep more of a daily log of life on LiveJournal now. It might bore some people, but I want to be able to look back at it myself.

Another thing with SFU Slurrey (which I will damn well call it if I want to) now is that it is way too crowded. Lunch time has a huge number of people in the pool, standing room only. No free labs to go anywhere (luckily I have a desk in my office area). And there was a queue to use the guy's washroom. It frigging sucks now compared to what it was. "All these young whipplesnappers!".

My opinion of Surrey is rapidly going downhill. Only in Surrey do I see large numbers of crackwhores, druggies, drug dealers and other underworld types. Also another thing I noticed about Surrey now, is the disproportionate number of mentally and physically impaired people. Ben Kenobi (Obi-Wan) said it best in Star Wars: A New Hope, "You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villany." (Sound Clip).

Some people may now say (Audio Clip), but damn the torpedoes and to well with it (Sound Clip). Surrey is a scummy place compared to Burnaby or Vancouver, and deserves the name "Slurrey" IMHO.

TechBC SFU Slurrey

So I get up this morning, 6.30am. Read email and the like, have some breakfast, look at the newspaper, and head off to school. Nobody else in the house is awake when I leave. (Listening to Eiffel 65 - Dub In Life now) My commute to SFU Slurrey is only 30 minutes now, instead of the 90 minutes it took me before. That was probably one of the only good things that happened to me today.

Got to SFU Slurrey, found that neither of my access worked to get me anywhere, even in the door. Complained at security for that, so I could get some work done later on. Looked at the CMS, had no idea where my class was, because of a pile of changes. SFU changed the numbering system for the rooms! And they did it on a zig-zagging grid. What the hell were the facilities people smoking?

My first class was INTD210 - Visualizing Project Management. Yes, the class is new to me, but the instructor is dry and doesn't seem to care about the material. We formed up into our own teams, my team consists of 4 girls, myself and Tien. Brittney will be joining the team as of next class as well. The teacher told Micheal Cox and myself to stop answering questions, as, once she waited for an answer, and none was forthcoming from the class, it was like trying to extract hen's teeth, and we gave up and just voiced out the answer loudly. The teacher eventully got annoyed with the lack of input from the class, and let us off 20 minutes early.

I bought a second hand Sound Blaster 128 and USB hub off Aaron, since we had arranged it previously, and I did the transaction while waiting for the next class.

The next class was ITEC240 - Data Structures. Come on! I've done the data structures side of programming and computer science a long time ago. They getting really annoying! If I wanted to really learn something, I would like to study software design patterns. I went to try and see about challenging the course (along with my math course), only to be told that I need to wait until next week, as the first priority is new people with stuff messed up. I'm certain this isn't entirely SFU policy, but I'll let them be for now, as I know some of them are really busy and understaffed.

Had a quick lunch, discussed a website with Ian, Marie-Claudé and Erica (Good thing #2 in here, getting paid nicely). Did most of the math weekly assignment (that was not for marks, just for practice) and then went to the math class. It was scheduled in when we had an open lab, because yesterday, when we would have had the class, was a public holiday. Again, I'm certain that is not SFU policy. The math class, as an open lab, was the first class of the day that was actually in a room with computers. Even our programming class wasn't in a computer lab. I used one of the chairs and took a nap. The teacher is some weird russian woman, who keeps mixing her metaphors badly, and doesn't make much sense at all. She was also lacking in intelligence enough to write on the whiteboard using a permanant marker.

Most of the way thru the class while I was napping, Marissa snuck in, and came and hugged me. That was good thing #3 that happened for today. Talked to her, hugged her, grabbed my stuff and left to go home. Thought I saw [livejournal.com profile] stabmyhead at Surrey Central Station, not exactly sure. Took the 30 minute transit ride home. Jon broke something on his server, and I told him that I'm not fixing it for a while.

I managed to fuck up making caramel fudge. It's all burnt and stringy and crumbly. And NO I do NOT want to hear jokes about me having fudged it up.

Seriously, the graphics quality on it is really supreme! I'll get a digital camera to snap a photo of it soon.
