Dec. 7th, 2003 07:13 pmLately I've found myself not listening to music in my collection, but instead live shoutcast streams, mainly from the scandanavian regions. (Rise FM: http://yp.shoutcast.com/sbin/shoutcast-playlist.pls?rn=838&file=filename.pls). There is just something that these stations have that isn't in my massive collection of MP3. I can't put my finger on it, but it's either variety or total randomness, partially coupled with the fact that I can't control the next song at all.

Job offer craziness
Dec. 5th, 2003 03:42 pmI don't know what it is lately, but I've been inundated with job offers, and I mean it seriously.
- Vive @ SFU (SSHRC-INE - database, configuration management, project management, web rendering, etc.)
- Gordon @ SFU (research sysadmin for next semester, conditional on some SFU politics)
- web development company downtown (PHP consultant/developer)
- Julie @ SFU (web dev and misc.)
- A guy from the PHP Meetup last night (PHP consultant/developer)
- Business card passed to my mother today while she was shopping, from somebody that has heard of me (PHP consultant/developer)
- Email from another guy that attends lots of PHP meetups [but wasn't there last night] (PHP consultant/developer)
(Note: I've not listed who some of the companies/people are my discretion to keep things private).
Seriously, is it normal to have this many unsolicited job offers? I'm not complaining, just wondering what the hell is going on, as I haven't asked for any employment at all (but I am looking).

A little story to inform everybody:
A few years ago, when I was a bit more paranoid and watched my custom firewall more vigilantly for attacks, I got an attack from somebody in the southern part of Burnaby. Within a few minutes, I got into the attacker's system, identified them, and I phoned them up. I strongly warned them to cease and desist, and gained an immediate response from the attacking individual that I would say put fear of a higher power into them.
Attacks of any form, be they digital or merely saying something against me in a negative fashion will not be tolerated whatsoever.

yay to the wonders of CVS and multiple teammembers workign at all hours on a project.
boo to Telus for taking teammembers offline when they need the net to work.
yay to rational rose actually running half fast on 1Gb of RAM finally.
boo to rational rose for generating stupid implementations of Singleton/Factory GoF patterns.
yay to IntelliJ IDEA for being such a nice cross-platform Java editor (including refactoring and many other nice features).
boo to IntelliJ IDEA for breaking your gvim keystroke plugin and not having my vim support anymore :-(.
